Personal Goals
I stopped making New Years Resolutions a while ago. Why? Probably because I am pretty happy with my life, work, love and everything in between. And while I don’t believe in putting too much pressure on the 31st of December, I do think that it is nice to have an excuse for a fresh start at least once a year. Especially when it comes to my overflowing inbox. I simply create a new folder and pretend the unanswered mails don’t exist. Just kidding. Well, not really, but back to a more serious fresh start…
Every once in a while, it is nice to take some time to reflect upon things. Things that are going good, things that could be better and things that we need to eliminate from our lives. That can be NYE, January 1st, a birthday or any other day of the year.
While I don’t have a list of resolutions to share with you today, I do have a few personal goals and dreams that I want to turn into reality. Nothing life-changing, but things that will make my day-to-day life much more enjoyable and possible even a bit more relaxed or simple.
let’s get personal
- punctuality: This was on my list last year and I definitely improved my time-management. A lot. With a best friend who is overly punctual (always!), it is something that I really wanted to make happen 2017. And did. At least most of the time. The goal for 2018 is to maintain this newfound timeliness but take it one step further by also procrastinating less on things that don’t necessarily come with a set time or date. Get stuff done right away!
- declutter: I love our apartment, but I haven’t really been happy here for the past year. That’s because there is so much stuff everywhere! The space is not small but it is definitely not big. For a while I was desperately looking for a new home, instead of simply tackling the problem by it’s root. I need to declutter. Big time!
- offline: When you are self-employed, set office hours are nearly impossible to stick to. However, I do want to improve upon my work-life-balance a bit more. I want to spend more time at the office to work off my to-do lists Monday through Friday and I want to spend evenings, weekends and vacations away from the laptop. Up until now, I have always had one foot out the door with the other one stuck knee-deep in my emails. I would pride myself in getting up earlier than Mike on the weekends to spend some quality time with my laptop before breakfast or would claim that I loved working off my to-do list on Sundays with no new emails coming it. That’s all true, but I have come to realize that this way, I am never fully present at work and never fully able to disconnect from work.
That’s it. I know that if I am able to achieve these goals this year, so many other aspects of my life will become even more enjoyable than they already are. It may not sound like a lot, but these really are my biggest goals for 2018. And even just taking the time to write them down, black on white, and sharing them with you, has made me so much more motivated to turn these goals into reality.
What are your personal goals for this year? I’d love to know!
