From Hamburg, with love!

Thanks to my job, I get to travel a lot. Unfortunately, however, the work aspect of it doesn’t always allow for a whole lot of exploring. Today, I am in Hamburg for a dinner with Pandora and lots of lovely ladies, and since my flight touched down at 10am, I decided to take 2 hours for myself, away from my laptop, to grab some lunch and do a bit of shopping. The outcome? My personal mini-guide for Hamburg and a little diary of my day, as seen through the lens of my phone.

After touching down in rainy Hamburg, I hopped in a cab to The George Hotel (which I love!). If I had know what a terrible cab driver I would get, I would have opted for public transportation instead … Generally speaking, I like to consider myself a very tolerant and open-minded person, but this guy took it too far. He did his best to use the 20 minutes in the car to tell me how “prollig” (=chavvy) it is to wear jeans, and that he’s ashamed of me for going into a hotel and boarding a plane dressed like that. He then went on to tell me about his thoughts on women who prefer a career over a family … When I told him, that it probably wasn’t a good idea to be insulting his paying customers, he mentioned something about “money is not everything”, which, retrospectively, I should have taken as a clue not to pay him. Since I believe in karma, however, I was quickly rewarded for the rude driver (car #2903 if you ever happen to be in Hamburg) with my room being ready earlier than expected.

For lunch I tried “Oh My Juice”, a small juice place that I spotted on Juliane’s Instagram. Delicious, healthy and literally just a 3 minute walk from the hotel. After working through my inbox a bit, I wanted to treat myself to some coffee and (window-)shopping at UZWEI, an incredibly concept store in the hear to of the city by “Neuer Wall”. The shop with lots of designers is amazing – had to stop myself from splurging on that mini falabella bag I’ve been coveting – but the café is even more drool-worthy. Fresh flowers, healthy drinks and snacks, as well as coffee that comes in the most stylish togo cups. Definitely my new favorite spot in the city!

  • Cocktail Attire 101

Here’s a confession: Any time I receive an invite that calls for “cocktail attire” I get slightly nervous. My style is usually fairly casual and I definitely wear pants almost 100% of the time. A skirt or dress is such a rare occasion for me, that I find it harder to style those looks. Even…

As you’ve probably guessed right, today’s post is a mini (vegan) food diary. Last year in August, I had a very interesting conversation with…

  2. Loved this little insight into your day in Hamburg. Felt like you were talking to your sister or Mom. More of this, please! 🙂 Also, so sorry to hear about the rude cab driver. Gosh, some people can really ruin your day for you, right? But the hotel and all the other beautiful things you’ve experience have hopefully more than made up for that disturbing incidence!

    1. Thank you for your sweet comment 🙂 I totally believe in karma and am sure the guy got his fair share of it. And like you said – wonderful hotel, wonderful lunch, wonderful shopping, … in the end I had a great day!
