City Trip
Sometimes plans change. Sometimes life gets in the way. Sometimes things just don’t work out. In 3 days, we were supposed to be boarding a flight to the Maldives to celebrate my birthday under the sun. We booked the flights back in September with the last bits of our saved-up miles with airberlin. But as time went on, the vacation started feel more and more like a burden. For both work-related and personal reasons. That’s why, 2 weeks ago, Mike and I decided to cancel everything. Crazy? Not really. We are young, have no kids or school vacations to keep in mind and should only spend our free time doing things that make us 100% happy.
Don’t get me wrong. The Maldives are nothing short of paradise and under different circumstance the absolute dream vacation. To date, the day we left the Park Hyatt Hadahaa 2 years ago was the only time I cried while checking-out at a hotel – that’s how beautiful it was. Even more so, because we are aware of the fact of just how special a trip to the Maldives is, we decided that this time, it just didn’t feel right. Luckily we were able to get all of the hotel costs refunded and the airline miles would have been gone anyway (since the insolvency of the company). Instead we booked a 4-day city trip to Istanbul, where we will be celebrating my birthday in 10 days.
Funny enough, we are both beyond excited about Istanbul, which just goes to show that the other vacation simply wouldn’t have been the right thing this time around. Yesterday, we finalised our foodie agenda (one of our favorite parts of traveling), and now I am counting the days even more. Which is why I wanted to dedicate today’s Cravings to city trips and share a few new items I recently acquired with you that will definitely make an appearance on our trip!
Istanbul City Trip
- Le Specs retro sunnies: Adore this shape of sunglasses on others, just not sure if it suits my face…
- Prada bag: I have been drooling over the newest Prada bags for a good year and this one is pure perfection for summer. Light white, beachy but still sophisticated.
- Edited wrap top: Do you guys remember this top from last year? So many of you loved it and so do I! This season, EDITED has come out with a super similar one and I am thinking I need it – in multiple colors, of course. Who’s with me?
- Closed pedal pushers: My obsession with the Closed pedal pusher jeans is not one to miss (basically all I wear nowadays) and this is the most recent addition to my collection. Super super high-waisted with frayed hems. Love!
- Fleur du mal satin silk bra: Just because!
- Rag & Bone cap: I have been loving caps for city trips, or any trip for that matter. No bad hair days when you can simply pull it together in a low bun and add a cap.
- Christian Dior sneakers: Last but not least, an early birthday present from me to me. An insanely expensive version of the classic converse sneakers, but hey, my heart skipped a beat when I saw them and they are super comfortable, which makes them practical too.

Wir haben schon gescherzt, dass es dann vor Ort wahrscheinlich durchgehend geregnet hätte weil die Reise einfach nicht sein sollte 🙂 Jetzt freuen wir uns beide unheimlich auf Istanbul!!

Sorry fürs neugierig sein – aber wie bitte hast du argumentiert, dass sie dir sämtliche Kosten ein paar Tage vor Reiseantritt erlassen? Ich war schon in einigen Hotels, hatte aber sogar, als ich im Krankenhaus war (!!!!), das Pech, dass 80% des Reisepreises verlangt wurden … ich freu mich für dich, aber wundere mich auch gleichzeitig, ob das immer die gelebte Politik von Park Hyatt ist oder einfach eine Ausnahme für VIPs oder Blogger… weil im Endeffekt geht ihnen ein paar Tage vorher eine Buchung verloren, die sie vielleicht nicht so kurzfristig auffüllen können … ich würde mich irrsinnig freuen, wenn du mir erzählst, was du gesagt hast zu ihnen – und ich trau mich das nur zu sagen weil du eine der wenigen Bloggerinnen bist mitunter die wirklich ehrlich sind ❤️
Liebe Bellaliebhaberin,
wir haben die Reise bereits vor 2 Wochen storniert, also nicht nur ein paar Tage vorher. Oft gelten bei gewissen Fristen andere Regeln. Wir hatten das erste Hotel für 4 Tage über eine Kooperation/Presseeinladung gebucht und nur 1 Nacht privat auf eigene Kosten dazugebucht, die Kosten dafür haben sie uns auf Kulanz erlassen. Das 2. Hotel hatten wir komplett privat über The Luxe Nomad gebucht und auch schon zur Gänze bezahlt. Es kam jedoch zu Komplikationen mit dem Zimmerkategorie und wir wurden auf eine andere Insel übersiedelt, was wir aber nicht wollten, da es kein Adults Only Hotel war. Das haben sie uns ohne jegliche Kosten storniert (was mMn auch selbstverstänlich sein sollte). Anschließend haben wir nochmal ein Resort über den Travel Service unserer Kreditkarte gebucht und dort konnte die Buchung zum Glück auch storniert werden 🙂 It just wasn’t meant to be!

PS. am 16. Februar ist Chinese New Year und die Zimmer gehen weg wie warme Semmeln 🙂 Alle Resorts sind komplett ausgebucht und vielleicht war das auch ein Grund!

Magst du vielleicht noch kurz sagen, welche Hotels du auf den Malediven empfehlen kannst – oder in welche ihr fahren wolltet? Ich überleg, ob ich auch zu meinem runden Geburtstag auf die Malediven fliegen möchte – wär mein erstes Mal – und ich hab schon ein, zwei Mal auf deine Meinung vertraut, was coole Destinationen und Hotels angeht und bin noch nie enttäuscht werden. Also man könnte fast sagen, wenn du etwas “zertifizierst”, dann vertrau ich dir da blind 🙂 Du solltest was für deine Vorschläge verlangen – danke schon im Voraus 🙂
Ahh das ist ein liebes Kompliment <3 Ich freu mich sehr, dass dir meine Empfehlungen gefallen haben.
Bis Dato war unser tollster Urlaub im Park Hyatt auf den Malediven, allerdings muss ich dir ganz ehrlich sagen, dass die Anreise suuuuper lang ist 🙂 Es ist eines der südlichsten Resorts in den Malediven (nur 40km vom Äquator entfernt) und man fliegt ab Malé nochmal mit einem Flugzeug und dann 30 min. mit dem Boot. Sobald man allerdings da ist, ist es das Paradies auf Erden!
Über die Resorts dieses Mal kann ich ja leider nicht berichten, aber bei meiner Recherche waren folgende in der näheren Auswahl: Vakkaru (ganz neu im Nov 2017 aufgesperrt), Amilla Fushi & die beiden Como Resorts! Ansonsten ist Kathi grad von den Malediven zurückgekommen und kann nicht aufhören vom Six Senses zu schwärmen 🙂 Das habe ich bei The Luxe Nomad übrigens auch mal als Deal gesehen (genauso wie Park Hyatt). Eine andere gute Freundin war im LUX* und meinte es war das beste Hotel ihres Lebens.

Ganz viel Spaß bei eurem Citytrip nach Istanbul. Und wenn es sich nicht richtig angefühlt hat, dann ist es auch richtig den Urlaub zu stornieren… Wir haben es leider einmal durchziehen müssen und dann war es irgendwie kein wirklich “befriedigender” Urlaub.
Was ich Dich schon immer mal fragen wollte, wie machst du denn die Shoppingcollagen in den Deinen Beiträgen? Die sind sooo schön <3

I think you are going to have a great time in Istambul! I love that city! I think that together with Lisbon and Venice, it’s one of the most beautiful, decadent cities in Europe.
On another note, the first time I visited I was surprised by the incredible shopping! Just saying… since it’s your birthday… 😉

Istanbul ist unglaublich schön, ihr werdet eure Entscheidung nicht bereuen :)) Manchmal muss man auf sein Bauchgefühl hören. Falls das noch nicht am Plan stehen sollte, hier ein Tipp: Seht euch unbedingt das Stadtviertel Karaköy an! Sowohl tagsüber zum Shoppen als auch abends für Dinner & Drinks sehr zu empfehlen.

mit der aktuellen politischen Situation die auf Malé seit gestern herrscht, war es wirklich die richtige Entscheidung! Und wir waren schon einmal in Istanbul (vor 4 Jahren über Ostern) und lieben die Stadt – Karaköy hat mir auch sehr gut gefallen, genauso wie Ortaköy mit der Moschee direkt am Wasser und Frühstück im House Hotel 🙂 Counting the days…
