Australia Travel Diary Sydney | Bikinis & Passports

Touchdown in Sydney

After a week spent in and around Sydney, I think it is safe to say I have fallen hard for the Australian beach city. It reminds me of a much larger San Diego. The people, vibes, surfers, the lifestyle and coffee culture. A place where you work to live, not live to work. “Laid-back” would probably be the right term to describe the atmosphere.

laid-back \ˈlād-ˈbak-nəs, ˌlād-noun: having a relaxed style or character

We decided to start our family-trip through Australia (well, as much as you can cover in 3 weeks) in Sydney. It is where my brother is currently living for work, an easy destination to reach from Europe via Dubai (if 24 hours of travels could ever be considered “easy”) and a great home-base for the rest of the journey with affordable domestic flights heading out in all directions. Even though we have already moved on to Melbourne and will be hopping around the Eastern side of the continent for the next couple of days, I wanted to share a few first impressions with you today. Kind of like sending postcards to friends (=all of you) before I start sharing some of the best places to eat in Sydney, where to sleep, sights to see and what day-trips to take.

If your friends (or you) are anything like me, traveling is the biggest luxury. • Up North

T here are not a lot of specific memories I have from my early childhood. Don’t get me wrong, I had the most amazing parents, siblings and always lived in a happy home. But I don’t have those very specific childhood memories. At least not a lot of them. However, there is one thing that…
