Aloha Maui: Getting Leid in Maui | Bikinis & Passports

Aloha, Maui!

After a wonderful week in Maui, I am back in Vienna today fighting a pretty hefty jet lag. The struggle is real – especially at 4pm! To stay awake, I’ve decided to start with my first post from our Hawaiian vacation for you. Aloha Maui! I seriously can’t tell you how beautiful the island is, how wonderful our hotel was and how sunny the weather was. We got to explore a lot and I think like we got a fairly good feel of the island. There is so much to share and I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on some of the things we did, since I know a few of you have been to Hawaii before.

First up, however: Getting leid upon arrival! I have to admit, I was pretty excited about this one. I think a lei made of pretty flowers is something that pops into most of our heads when we think of the Hawaiian islands. Just the thought of receiving such a beautiful gift made me happy, and sure enough we were greeted with a pink flower lei and a kukui nut lei (for Mike) as well as some ginger-mint lemonade at the hotel. The perfect start to a perfect vacation!

“The most popular concept of a lei in Hawaiian culture is a wreath of flowers presented upon arriving or leaving as a symbol of affection and appreciation.”

By now, most of you probably know that I am definitely not an impulse shopper when it comes to designer pieces. I have no problem splurging on something, but when I do spend a month worth of rent on something, I want to make sure that I will get lots of wear out of it. Remember my cost-per-wear theory? Since the Summer, I’ve been dreaming about timeless boots for Winter …

  • OUTFIT: heavenly steps with Tod’s Gommino

The older I get, the lower my tolerance for uncomfortable shoes seems to get. I’ve recently decided to opt for sneakers instead of ballet flats when traveling or sightseeing, and last week my first pair of heavenly Tod’s “Gommino” moccasins finally arrived. I grew up seeing my mom’s best friend basically living in Tod’s. She’s the typ of lady who’s outfits…

  • OUTFIT: really red

Sometimes all it takes is one single item to make an entire outfit! These pants by Double Ikkat, for example – they are so “wow” that they don’t require anything other than a casual white shirt. Even with such a simple combination the whole ensemble is a total eye-catcher. Usually I wouldn’t consider myself someone that wears…

  • Soho

Last week’s warm weather in the city in combination with dinner at Catch NYC, followed by drinks at Soho House was the perfect excuse to finally wear my new top – in Soho, of course. Originally, I purchased it with a destination like Ibiza or the Maldives in mind, but turns out it also works…

  • OUTFIT: twentyseven.

I think I am amongst the few people that don’t mind getting older. As my mom has always said “growing old is a privilege that not everyone gets to have”. So true! Yesterday I turned 27 and even though the big three zero is slowly getting closer, I don’t mind one bit. There is something exciting about getting older. I love my life and the things I’ve gotten to experience the past year…
