What’s My Scent?
When it comes to perfume, I am picky beyond means. I blame it on my super sensitive sense of smell. The problem is not that I simply don’t appreciate certain perfumes. The problem is they actually make me nauseous to the point where I get a headache and have to leave the room instantly. Drama queen much? Maybe. But you get the point. I am very specific about which perfumes I like and which I don’t.
Due to my pickiness, I literally have about 3 perfumes on my top shelf that I love. And by love I mean: “would bathe in”. My sense of smell is very black and white in that way. I will either hate it or love it. That’s why I rarely feature new scents here on the blog or collaborate with perfume brands.
So, what perfumes have made the cut in the past?
One of my first ever eau de toilette was a classic Sun by Jil Sander. Who didn’t have that one back in the days? Next up was the I love love eau de toilette by Moschino, a gift from my aunt. When Mike and I first started dating I wore it all the time and it still instantly brings me back to that time when I smell it now. Fast forward a few years and I discovered Oh Lola! by Marc Jacobs. I went through a good 3 or 4 bottles before accidentally discovering Chance Eau Vive by Chanel at a press day in Hamburg. I had no intention whatsoever of liking it because my sister wore Chance by Chanel back then and as much as I love her, the original Chance was simply too much for my taste. But Chance Eau Vive is perfection. I am currently on my third bottle and it has definitely become my signature scent. It is by far the perfume that I get the most compliments for and have even upgraded to the hair perfume and shower gel as well. Like I said, true love!
Overall, I think it is safe to say that I appreciate a lighter scent that includes a citrus note and Strays Away from heavy Woods or Too Feminine Sweet Ingredients.
My most recent addition to the collection of scents on my bathroom top shelf also comes from the house of Chanel and is their newest release “Gabrielle“. While the fragrance is a bit “heavier” than my usual choice, I love it for date nights, fancy events and other festive occasions. It will never be my every-day-scent but it is a beautiful addition to my very personal collection of perfumes.
