Today has been a little weird. I woke up to an email from a nice guy (Christoph – THANK YOU!!), letting me know that someone was using my pictures on Facebook under a different name (Laura Kapunkt). Christoph was smart enough to run the pictures through Google picture detection and realized the pictures were taken from my blog (he never knew about me or my blog until then).
Then in the afternoon I received another email from a friend from Vienna (DANKE, Max!!) who had also received a friend request from a person (Laura Pepunkt) using my pictures. He knows me personally and so he confronted her why she was using my pictures. The profile was deleted.
To be honest, it is a little weird to me – who wastes their time pretending to be someone else? However, lots of other bloggers have been impersonated on Facebook or Twitter and I guess it is our own fault for publishing tons of pictures on the web, accessible for so many people (including some weird, creepy ones).
BUT I would just like to point out that ALL of my pictures (unless they are from other sources) are under copyright and you may only use them with my explicit permission or linking back to my blog.
“Bikinis & Passports and its content are copyright of Vicky Heiler, unless otherwise stated. Any redistribution or reproduction of text or images without my express prior consent is strictly prohibited. You are free to link to Bikinis & Passports or quote the website as long as Vicky Heiler (bikinisandpassports.com) is credited. If you are interested in using images or an article, please contact me.”
Therefore the person that is making these imposter profiles is committing a crime. I’m guessing this person reads my blog, since thats where the pictures are from. I am just letting you know that what you are doing is illegal and Facebook actually saves all profiles ever created and the matching IP addresses.
As far as I can tell “Laura” is just adding random guys on Facebook. I don’t think “she” wants to interact with my readers. However, if you do receive a friend request from someone that happens to look just like me, please shoot me an email or comment :) The only thing I have on Facebook are the Bikinis & Passports page and a personal account under my real name that is strictly for close friends and family.
On a different note: Last week I was featured on the Lady Lux blog as blogger of the week. The girls of LadyLux certainly had my permission when using these photos :) For those that have not seen it, you can check out a little Q&A and the feature HERE.
