Whenever I am travelling I prefer to stay far away from touristy spots that are usually way over-priced and not much of an authentic experience. Since I know how hard it is to find amazing places to eat and enjoy the people and culture I am always thankful for other people’s recommendations. Mike and I were super lucky with all the places we explored at the Wörthersee this past weekend and loved every one of them. So I wanted to share those places with you incase you’re ever looking for a good place to eat around the lake in Carinthia :)
1.) Lakeside Lounge – definitely my favorite experience!! Even though it was fully booked for Friday night (when we had originally planned on eating there) we decided to stop by spontaneously on Saturday for a late lunch and got lucky with 2 spots at the bar. The place seems to be well liked amongst locals, located right on the water and the food was simply amazing!!! The menu is written by hand daily, since the meals are created with whatever fresh ingredients are available. We shared 2 appetizers (fresh bruschetta & sashimi) and Mike had mussels in the most flavorful white wine sauce, while I had the Tuna Ahi on mango salsa – pictured below. Accompanied by a glass of chilled rosé wine it was the perfect lunch and atmosphere we could have asked for!!
2.) Porto Bello – one of the most romantic dinners I have ever had ♥ Everything from entering through the gorgeous Schloss Seefels to walking down to the restaurant through the luscious garden of the hotel and to being seated fairly secluded, right by the water, surrounded by boats was simply breath-taking. The service was layed-back but super friendly, professional (a waiter that wasn’t even serving us called us by our last name as we were leaving, just by remembering from the reservation) and polite, with an occasional joke, which I always love!
3.) Sol Beach Club – another great location for a late lunch. They served sushi, made with regional fish, which was super fun to try. Plus they also have the option to rent beach chairs and lounges for the day if your hotel isn’t right by the water and you want to enjoy the lake.
4. Apotheke Bar at the Lake’s – the famous cocktails from New York really are out of this world!!! I had the tomato/basil infused vodka with sea salt rim & Mike had the Gin&Tonic From The Market which was so flavorful, unlike any gin-tonic I’ve ever had. They use special extracts and herbs to make the cocktails and they certainly are something special. The sad part: I’ll only be there for a few (I think two) more weeks … I think I need to plan a trip to NYC asap!!
