my daily make-up routine.

One of the most frequent questions I receive is definitely concerning my make-up. I have never considered myself a make-up junkie or beauty blogger and my heart certainly doesn’t skip a beat when a new limited edition lipstick of some sort is available. But I do take 10 minutes every morning to do my make-up before I leave the house because I feel kind of naked without it. (Not if I am heading to the gym, of course! I will never understand girls who apply make-up just to sweat it all off again.) At first I tried making a video for you guys – unfortunately the focus thing wouldn’t work with my dslr and it was a big blurry mess. So pictures will have to do until I get my hands on a camcorder.

I’m not sure if I mentioned it on the blog, but last year I suffered from something called “stewardess disease” twice. It is basically a skin condition when you treat your skin with too many products and it can’t naturally produce moisture anymore. Ever since then I have been super careful not to “over-do” it with the skincare products. In the mornings I wash my face with nothing but water, put on some moisturizing lotion for sensitive skin and then the BB cream. BB cream (short for blemish balm) is very popular in Korea and it treats redness while moisturizing and covering imperfections. It leaves my skin looking super natural rather than caked-on with foundation. I ordered mine through Ebay last christmas, it lasts FOREVER!!! If there is redness left I brush on some MAC mineralizse skinfinish around the eyes and nose.

1) Benefit – foundation brush

2) BRTC – gold caviar BB cream

3) MAC – mineralize skinfinish, medium plus

4) MAC – brush 182

For my eyes, I do a line on the upper lid with a slight wing towards the end. I use a simple black eyeliner and go over it whole thing with a coppery brown eyeshadow and a flatliner brush. Sometimes I will add an eyeshadow with a golden shimmer on the lid. If I am going out I do a light smokey eye with gold and brown tones. Black mascara is a must for me, since my eye lashes are super light.

1) MAC – antiqued (veluxe pearl)

2) MAC – Devil May Dare eyeshadow set

3) MAC – powerpoint eye pencil

4) Sephora – flatliner brush

5) Maybelline – H401 mascara

I just recently started using an eyebrow kit, which was kindly sent to me by Anastasia of Beverly Hills. My brows have always been a light brown / blond. I used to have them dyed sometimes but not recently. With the kit it only takes a few easy steps to accentuate them.

This past year I started experimenting with pops of colors on my lips. I have gotten such sweet feedback from you guys and my friends, that I am drawn to colored lips more regularly now. (Seen HEREHERE and HERE). Its no secret that I am a huge fan of Kiehl’s lip balm and own lots of different kinds. No matter what color lipstick or lipgloss I go for, Kiehl’s is always a must underneath! I also apply the coconut lip balm before going to bed at night. Other than that I prefer a light pink gloss for class or running errands and the brighter colors for going out.

1) Kiehl’s – lip balm #1 (coconut) / 2) Kiehl’s – lip balm (no.30G) / 3) Kiehl’s – lip gloss (new york nude)

4) P2 – 010 “rodeo drive” / 5) P2 – 110 “place de la concorde” / 6) Revlon – 435 “love that pink”

7) Victoria’s Secret – “cherry bomb”

8) Clinique – 10 “grapefruit”

9) MAC – lipglass A74 “prrr”

10) MAC – dazzleglass “baby sparks”

On my cheeks (and nose, above the eyes & chin) I always apply just a little bronzer to look more “alive”. In the summertime I stick with the bronzer, since it compliments the tanned skin and freckles but for the rest of the year I apply some blush on my cheeks as well.

1) Too Faced – bronzer “sun bunny”

2) MAC – sheertone shimmer blush “plum foolery”

3) Benefit – blush “coralista”

It may sound like a lot but it literally takes me 8-10 minutes to do my make-up, so no biggie :) If there is anything else you’d like to know, just shoot your questions my way in the comments below and I’ll be happy to answer them. Any maybe one day I’ll get a little video together to show you how I do it!

Also, you can check out an old make-up post from a little more than a year ago HERE … I’ve added some things but some have also stayed the same :) Occasionally I still use things like the cream eyeshadow base by MAC or the Clinique high impact mascara, but my daily essentials are the ones pictured above!

You’re using the foundation brush for the bb cream, right? I’m thinking for a longer time now to buy such a cream…. so it would be interesting to know how you use it :)

    • vicky says:

For the BB cream I mostly just use my fingers and the foundation brush in “harder-to-get-to” areas, such as my eyes or around the nose. I’ve had really good experiences with the BB cream. I don’t know how well it works for others, since nobody I know uses it. But it has definitely helped my skin and gives a natural looking coverage.

This looks great. I would love to get some BB cream too, because I hate heavy foundations and avoid using them most of the time. I don’t know if they sell it here (Argentina), I’ll definitely find out!
    Love your blog <3

  8. Melissa says:

Thanks for reminding me that I need to try that Anatasia Brow kit! I keep hearing good things about it

  9. Sarah says:

Oh Vicky, I am such a sucker for new and/or interesting products. And now you got me hocked on that BB Cream. I went so far as also ordering it on ebay. It was only 14 Euro incl. shipping which is perfectly fine for trying something out (MAC products would be more expensive). I hope I make the same good experiences as you. My skin really needs good treatment right now (my skin condition is going beyond the stewardess disease, tending to be a permanent exzema) :(

    Love, S.

      Hi Sarah,

sorry to hear about your skin problems :( I have exima as well!! It used to be A LOT worse when I was little (I’m talking around the mouth, nose, eyes, back of knees, neck …) but I am slowly growing out of it! BB cream has definitely helped my skin, but it takes time! I started seeing improvements about 6 months after using it regularly. Not sure if that can be linked directly to the BB cream but it definitely feels better on my skin than foundation (I used to have the MAC foundation).

      Good Luck!

      XOX Vicky

Thanks for the wishes. I have a doctor’s appointment here in Denmark on Wednesday. So let’s see what the Danish doctors can do. Right before I left Germany I went to a dermatologist and he gave me some lotion but that just does not work. And I do not want to use cortison all the time (dries out the skin unnecessary). The BB cream sounds like a great solution as soon as the exzema is gone. People say they cannot even see it on me that much but of course I do. Ihave days were it goes better and some worse days. Hoep to get rid of it soon. I finally appreciate the almost perfect skin I used to have :/

vicky, ich liebe dein Make-up und das schaut wirklich sehr natürlich und hübsch aus!
die bb cream ist schon unterwegs zu mir! danke noch einmal für deinen tip in paris! :)

  11. Anika says:

Hey Vicky, great post, I kinda waited for it sooo long! Are you also using any concealer or is the BB cream all it takes?

    • vicky says:

Nope :) I don’t even own a concealer! I only use the BB cream and if there are certain areas that are a little red (for me: always around the nose and eyes) I apply some of the MAC mineralize skinfinish over the BB cream. That’s all I need. But I do have to admit that I am pretty lucky when it comes to my skin, other than dry or red spots I hardly ever have pimples or break-outs. So I definitely don’t need a ton of coverage!

If you’re ever short on posts, feel free to do a face/skin care routine post as I’m sure a lot of us are interested in that as well and you have such nice skin!

My friend works for MAC and said they still have some here! Let me know anytime if you would like another one! xoxoxo Kathy

    • vicky says:

Thanks so much Kathy :) That is super sweet of you! But I am fully stocked up haha and still have an un-opened one waiting in the drawer :) When I find something I like, I tend to take percautions so I wont run out!
