If you love summertime, a good BBQ and a great location, then I have THE place for you: Big Smoke! Mike and I always love to try new restaurants and places around town, and last Sunday we finally made it to the new BBQ place down by the danube canal. Personally, I have a weakness for any restaurant that creates an image around the food they serve, I love it when it becomes an experience! Big Smoke has an amazing outdoor location, doesn’t take reservations (waiting times can be up to an hour to get a table) and is seriously cool in terms of the look and feel. Don’t even get me started on the food … Probably not the best place if your vegetarian, but for everyone else it is a dream come true – just make sure you’re not currently on a diet. You can order super tender ribs (which Mike did) or the juciest and most delicious pulled pork ever (my choice), and of course a bunch of other things. The side-dishes are just as good as the main dishes, and I can warmly recommend the corn, cole slaw and bbq-beans (see the whole menu HERE). Next time you’re craving a good BBQ, head on over to the guys at Big Smoke, because they most definitely know what they’re doing!
Last Thursday, the 6th annual Vienna Awards for Fashion & Lifestyle took place. Personally, I love the fact that we have an event right here in Vienna, honoring best newcomer designers, make-up artists, stylists, journalists and everyone else involved in the fashion industry. Oh, and not to mention that Coco Rocha sat at the table next to us (!!) because she received the Style Icon of the Year award. Just a little side note: She is probably the sweetest celebrity I have ever seen. She held a lovely thank-you-speech and even took the time to respond to people at the awards that mentioned her on Instagram.
The dress code on the invite called for “Cocktail & Black Tie” and so Kathi and I headed to Steffl Department Store on a hunt for the perfect dress. Instead of dresses, however, we both walked out with jumpsuits in our shopping bags. I know my pick might not be everyone’s cup of tea due to the wide legs, but personally, I absolutely adored it! It felt very fitting, with all the ladies in floor length dresses, and I loved that it was something a little different. To see more of my outfit, and Kathi’s look, head on over to our Editor’s Pick on The Daily Dose today.
Kathi and I are currently in Milano to visit the “Confessions of Design” exhibition by 61 Austrian designers, manufacturers and traditional companies as part of Salone Internazionale del Mobile. We are excited about exploring the Italian fashion capital and doing a bit of sight-seeing and pizza-eating! Get ready for a travel diary coming up next week. In the meantime, I leave you guys with some impressions of the absolutely gorgeous new Dior boutique here in Vienna on Kohlmarkt – you guys definitely have to stop by and have a look around. I am so happy about all the amazing new stores opening in the 1st district, which are slowly transforming my beloved hometown into an amazing shopping destination. Soon we’ll be able to keep up with Milano and Paris!
For about 6 months now, I’ve been getting regular gel pedicures. I know that gel polishes have been around for a few years, but for my hands I get sick of the same color after about 5 days, so I only tried it once about 3 years ago and didn’t like it. However, for my pedicure, I always have the same super dark red, so last year in September I decided to treat myself to a shellac pedicure. I loved the results so much, that I haven’t gone back to regular polish yet. There are quite a few studios in Vienna that offer the gel mani/pedicure, so 3 weeks ago, I decided to try the GELeration pedicure by Jessica Cosmetics at Topkapi salon. The salon is located right on Kohlmarkt in the 1st district, which is probably as good as it gets in terms of location (umm, right above Chanel …). The pedicure was done amazingly and I am super happy with the results – the picture below is the way it looks after 18 days, so more than 2 weeks and still good as new! The Topkapi salon may be a bit old fashioned in comparison to other spas with super modern massage chairs and foot baths, but in the end, the thing I personally really care about the most is a good pedicure that lasts for weeks. Up until now, I’ve been getting the La Ric 2 Go pedicure, but during our vacation in Mexico I had a nail chip for the first time (which really isn’t supposed to happen with shellac or gel), so I wanted to try something new. I am a big fan of the regular Jessica Cosmetics nail polishes, and so far I am more than happy with the way my GELeration pedicure is holding up. Have any of you tried the GELeration mani- or pedicure? How did you like it?
