my top 10 … for fall

A few weeks ago I received a special request for a post, asking to state my top 10 pieces in my closet. I really liked the idea of picking my favorite pieces and reflecting on my own “must-haves”, and this past weekend I finally found time to prepare the post for you guys. For now, I have focused on the upcoming season of fall – because my favorite items in my closet definitely change, just as the seasons do. However, a lot of these are year-round favorites for sure. Hopefully you guys will find this helpful and understand what I think about when building and adding to my wardrobe.

This should come as no surprise for those that have followed my blog for a while. Statement necklaces are my #1 favorite accessory and I feel like they make a simple pair of jeans & a blouse look so put together and instantly glamorous. While my selection is around 10 necklaces at the moment, it definitely does not require that many. I would recommend having at least one each in silver and gold hues. These 4 basically go with most outfits and are such eye-catchers.

black skinny jeans

Simple black skinny jeans are so versatile and can be worn casually (ie. with a chambray shirt, as pictured above) or dressier with heels, a silky top and heavier make-up. My favorite pair is this waxed version from Zara with zippers by the ankles. Another plus: black is always flattering :)

Knits have never really gone out of fashion, but I feel like they have been the center of attention this and last fall. This is an item you should splurge on – nothing beats a great quality sweater that’ll keep you warm without making you grossly sweaty (ie. polyester does). I’d say a neutral color like beige or black are good basics to start with. Once you have those you can concentrate on other fun ones, like the hot pink or stripes. I can recommend the quality of J.Crew (the top 2 sweaters in this picture) because I have washed them at least 10 times and they still hold their shape and softness perfectly.

Another item to invest in: a black leather bag. I get SO MUCH wear out of this beauty, and it works with almost any outfit, and for most activities during the day. I feel it is smarter to spend a lot of money on a timeless piece that you’ll love forever (and that holds up and doesn’t break after a year), rather than buying a new, trendy bag each season of lesser quality.

My favorite kind of top to pair with skinny jeans. A silky blouse is appropriate for work without feeling too stiff. I’d say, start with basic colors and then move onto patterend, more special pieces, which are harder to incorporate with the rest of your clothes and can’t be worn as often.

No matter what season, there are always sunny days. Make sure that the shape works well with your face and the glasses feel comfortable, otherwise you wont enjoy wearing them. Even though I adore my Marc by Marc Jacobs sunglasses, you don’t necessarily have to spend a lot of money for a good pair – my 2nd favorite pair was a steal at 19€ from Mango. Just make sure the UV-filter is good :)

Another no brainer, my parka :) It is great for fall, winter (with the faux fur lining) and spring. The best buy last fall, for sure!!

Even though I have an array of clutches, I constantly find myself going back to this cross body bag. It is the perfect companion for travelling (a lot harder to steal than a big purse) and great for a night out, because you don’t constantly have to hold something while dancing.

Black (comfortable!!) flats are great for everyday stuff, going to work, running errands, … The 3 pairs above are in constant use and I am already dreading the day when they’ll be worn out to the max.

tweed jackets

While I do think blazers are a definite necessity in any girl’s closet, lately I’ve prefered tweed jackets. They do actually keep you warm, and look pretty sophisticated. I also love colorful versions, like my yellow or pink ones.

I still feel like there are lots of other things I could / should name, but considering the things I wear on a daily basis, these are my top 10 most loved things in my closet. If I could pick one more thing, I would say “11 – a touch of leopard”, whether it is a cute bag or leo flats, a touch of leopard is always appropriate :)

what’s in my bag.

A much-requested post over the past months has been a “what’s in my bag” post. And to be completely honest, I never did one because my bags used to look very similar to Julia’s in terms of content. But ever since I got my Alexander Wang Rocco bag I’ve made it a point to keep it clean and only carry the essentials with me. So here is a look at what I have in my bag at the moment (pictures were taken today in the morning).

– Steve Madden wallet

– Marc by Marc Jacobs coin bag (where I keep my entry card for work & change)

– Tory Burch sunglasses

– passport (I always carry it with me, such a weird habit)

– a hightlighter & a pen for notes on the go

– iPod touch

– gum, always a must in all my purses

– keys on a pretty key-chain from Henri Bendel

– a simple light pink lipstick, Dior lipgloss & Kiehl’s lip balm

– a small pocket mirror

– hair clip & hair tie when I like to get my hair out of my face at work

– hand lotion by Maria Galland

A little late but better late than never, right? So here goes to 4th and final part of the Q&A from a couple of weeks ago. I hope I answered everyone’s questions. You can also check out Part 1, 2 and 3 for the rest of them. If you have any more, just post them in this post and I’ll be happy to answer them next Monday, we can make this a weekly thing :)

  1. What’s your favorite store? (can be clothing, shoes, electronics, etc.)

→ you guys are probably going to think that I am incredibly weird for saying this but my favorite store is probably Trader Joe’s. Its a supermarket in California (and other states I am guessing) and they have lots of healthy and organic foods. I love their different hummus spreads and the cranberry salsa there is soo delish!! If I’d have to pick one other store it would be Nordstrom, just because you can basically get you entire wardrobe there. And I also love planet beauty for O.P.I polishes, moroccan hair oil and other beauty products.

  1. Favorite restaurant?

→ another hard one but since I love all different kinds of food. Mosun sushi in Laguna Beach is one of my faves for their specialty rolls and Mike and I just recently discovered Sosaku here in Vienna. A tiny place with crazy-good modern japanese food. If you ever go there, try the „to die for“ roll … it really is everything the name implies :)

  1. Do you like school?

→ I always loved going to school!! And I am being 100% serious! Not because I liked studying or the classes but because I loved getting to see some of my best friends every day. I have so many good memories throughout my entire school-experience. I went to a lot of different schools due to many moves and I liked every single one of them.

  1. Favorite youtuber?

    → definitely HRH Collection!!

  1. Favorite movie?

→ I have a few that I’ve seen many times and love. Obviously I’m a girl and love the SATC movies :) Alfi is also a really good one … Jude Law + Sienna Miller = perfection!! I watched Finding Nemo about 10 times because it is absolutely adorable and of course Hangover was hilarious. I’m sure I could list about 10 more :)

  1. Favorite TV show?

    → Gossip Girl and 90210 :)

  1. PC or Mac?

    → I my Macbook Pro.

  1. What kind of phone do you have?

→ Blackberry Bold 9000 … but I feel like it may die any day now :( I’ve had it for over 2 years and lately it’s been giving up on me.

  1. How tall are you?

    → 172 cm … 5’8“

  1. You seem like you eat very healthy, but do you ever „cheat“ and also eat things like chocolate or bread during the day?

→ Of course I „cheat“. But I dont really consider it cheating since I dont think you should constantly deprive yourself of everything. If I feel like having a little chocolate I will have some :) But luckly I’ve never been too much of a sweet tooth and prefer some almonds or fresh strawberries to snack on. But just on Saturday I had a biiiiig ice cream because the weather was too perfect to pass it up :) Ohh and last week I did the funniest thing, I went to the gym for 2 hours, only to go straight from there to a cupcake bakery!! Talk about ironic, buying a cupcake, still wearing your work-out clothes!!

  1. What would your dream job be? Would you still be in Austria or would you want to be located somewhere else?

→ as of right now I would love to work with social media. If I got to pick I would want to work and live in California. But Mike and I are pretty open in terms of where the future will take us and dont have a place we are glued to.

  1. Did you do any sports in highschool?

→ I tried out for the track and field team my sophmore year but then we moved to Austria and there are no school sports here. So unfortunately no :(

  1. What do you think the biggest difference is between american life and your life in Europe? Did you enjoy living in America?

→ I think most of you know by now how much I love America, so yess, I enjoyed it very much :) I think one of the biggest difference I experienced is the openess of people in America. A friendly „hi, how are you?“ or even just a smile is something thats a little more rare in Europe (or at least the places that I’ve lived).

  1. Do you rent a house in California or is it your own?

    → its a rental home.

  1. How much longer will you be studying? What are you studying?

→ I am majoring in communications, where I’ll be graduating in June and I also have a second major at the Business School of Vienna (business major) where I’ll probably be graduating in 2 years.

→ It’s a pretty light brown. Right now I have mostly my natural haircolor with only a few highlights underneath for the summer.

Another Monday and more answers for the Q&A from a few weeks ago. You guys really did ask a lot :) Some questions were asked multiple times, so if you feel like I didn’t answer your question today, be sure to check out Part I. and Part II.
There is also a Part IV. coming up next week :) Hope you all had a wonderful weekend, just like I did. We celebrated my moms birthday with a mexican BBQ and had so much fun. I’ll show you pictures soon.

  1. If you could live in any era/time period, when would it be and why?

→ right now!! I love my life and am thankful for every bit of it. Wouldn’t want to change anything about that and I also wouldn’t want to live in a different time period. After all, they didn’t have Twitter or Bloglovin’ back in the days :) (just kidding, that’s not the only reason)

  1. If you had to redo your entire wardrobe with 2 stores, what would they be and why?

→ probably Zara and Asos or just Nordstrom since they have anything from sunglasses to cute dresses and shoes.

→ spending time with my family for Mother’s Day.

  1. Do you have reoccuring dreams? If so, explain.

→ Nope, no reoccuring dreams as far as I know. I don’t really remember many of my dreams so I probably wouldn’t know even if I did have reoccurring dreams.

  1. What’s your horoscope?

    → aquarius.

  1. What does your dream bedroom look like?

→ lots of white with silver or gold accents, high ceilings, lots of light and a slightly romantic touch.

→ sorry, but some of these questions are a little awkward :) I guess on my side / tummy … almost never on my back tho, I know that for sure.

  1. Who is your favorite vampire of all time?

→ never got the whole vampire hype … I watched the first Twilight but don’t have a favorite vampire.
