Barcelona – day uno.

After 3 wonderful days spent in Barcelona with my mom, I am back in rainy Vienna and finally have time to show you guys (much delayed) pictures from Tuesday – our first day in the Spanish city .

Our day started fairly early, with a flight at 6:55 am. But it was great because we were in BCN by 9:10 am and in the hotel by 11. After checking in (luckly our room was already available) we got changed and set out to explore our neighborhood – El Born.

El Born is the quarter located right behind the hotel we stayed at and offers lots of amazing little alleys with unique boutiques (found the most amazing vintage shop that carried Chanel, LV, Hermés, …) and artsy shops.

Because we were hungry from travelling, we made the mistake of jumping into the first place we saw that served tapas. I really don’t have anything to compare the tapas to, but they were definitely not our cup of tea. Lots of fish in everything, the meatballs were made of pork, which I really don’t like and the waitress was super unfriendly. But at least it could only get better from there on out :)

{however, the salad was very yummy}

After lunch we made our way over to the Barri Gotic quarter and wanted to visit the famous gothic cathedral (Catedral de la Santa Creu i Santa Eulalia) there. Unfortunately I was wearing shorts and my shoulders weren’t covered (see outfit in the 1st picture), so we weren’t allowed to enter the church. Instead we decided to do a bit more exploring and walked through the entire Barri Gotic, over to La Ramblas – where we then did a bit of shopping at Massimo Dutti & Zara (detailed post coming soon).

{the very impressive gothic cathedral}

Around 5:30 pm we returned to the hotel to relax and nap for a bit, before getting ready for a late dinner. This time we found a really cool place (that I’ll tell you more about in another post) which served tapas that were much more to our liking!
